Today is June 30, 2017 and as of midnight JAY-Z has released his 13th studio album entitled “4:44.” I have yet to listen to the full length of the project but, since listening to the preview on TIDAL.COM I discovered a few tracks I can identify as favorites. It is always interesting to choose my favorites at onset, as these songs are the initial pieces that stand out without any interpretation or evaluation of song structure, lyrical content, or production. Although certain that my favorites will change at least two additional times: 1. Full listen of the album 2. Album on regular rotation.
I can already tell that I am going to enjoy this body of work as a whole. Oh, a random fact? lol I coincidentally looked at the clock today at 4:44pm reminding me of the album, which encouraged me to look into it for a listen and write this initial review.
That said, my initial favorites are “Bam” (was almost guaranteed lol) and “Legacy.” I appreciate that JAY-Z always has something to say when he releases a body of work, sort of like a vocal journal recorded in a studio that he shares. I look forward to listening to what he has to say this time. Until my next favorites have surfaced…
